MP Motorsport’s Richard Verschoor clinched a maiden F2 victory with a dominant drive in British Sprint Race Two.
Verschoor led from lights out and survived two safety car periods to take a controlled yet dominant win ahead of Marcus Armstrong and Dan Ticktum.
Oscar Piastri emerged best of the rest in fourth after edging out Liam Lawson in a race-long battle for fourth until he completed his move on lap 18.
Juri Vips, Felipe Drugovich and David Beckmann round out the top eight finishers as Race One winner, Robert Shwartzman finished 15th after a late spin.
In the driver standings, Piastri benefitted from Shwartzman’s non-points finish to extend his championship lead to 12 points over the Russian as Juri Vips climbed to third and one point ahead of Guanyu Zhou.
As drivers left the grid for the formation lap, Christian Lundgaard stalled his ART GP but was able to join the race from the pit-lane, eventually finishing 13th at the checkered flag.
Verschoor made a clean start as the top three held position but further behind, Ralph Boschung got wide through the Loop and Arena corners over the kerbs, launching him into a spin and he collected Alessio Deledda to trigger the first Safety Car.
Racing resumed on lap five with no major changes in positions up front but on lap six, Jehan Daruvala tried an inside move on Bent Viscaal into Stowe but misjudged his braking and clipped Viscaal, who slid into the gravel trap to bring the Safety Car back out.
Once Viscaal’s Trident was cleared, racing resumed on lap 11 with Roy Nissany and Lundgaard making moves on Jack Aitken and Matteo Nannini for 13 and 15th respectively in the next two laps.
Aitken however spun on lap 15 at Stowe to drop him to 18th at the checkered flag once Daruvala had a ten second time penalty applied, following his collision with Viscaal.
Up front, the majority of the top eight held position to the checkered flag except for Piastri who passed Lawson into Brooklands on lap 18 before taking the point for fastest lap.
