Aston Martin have signed Andrew Alessi from Red Bull with immediate effect to become Head of Technical Operations.
Alessi will head the Aerodynamics department at Aston Martin with responsibilities including the lead, management and development of design, planning, production and operations of the team’s aerodynamics production.
In a statement, Alessi spoke of feeling “delighted” to make the move and praised the “evident ambition” of Aston Martin and can’t wait to begin working with “the very capable technical – and engineering-focused members” of senior management at the team.
Alessi also spoke of it feeling like “a fantastic time” to join Aston Martin ahead of the 2022 technical revamp and can’t wait “to get stuck in straight away so as to contribute to the process of making the significant aerodynamic and operational improvements that we need in order to win consistently in the future.”
Aston Martin Team Principal and CEO, Otmar Szafnauer welcomed Alessi’s arrival as an “impressive” boost after in recent weeks signing Luca Furbatto from Alfa Romeo as Engineering Director, alongside Dan Fallows who joins as Technical Director.
Szafnauer noted that he has repeatedly spoke of the team punching above their weight over the last decade under Force India, Racing Point and now Aston Martin name banners, yet now believes that they have “the weight with which to punch harder” with new “experienced” arrivals boosting their current team.
The 56 year-old concluded by sending out a huge warning to Aston Martin’s Formula One rivals as he iterated that the team now has the strength and quality needed “in order to deliver that harder punch” in their quest to challenge for race victories.
Alessi will take up his new role as of today (1 July 2021) as the team prepares for this weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring, Styria, Austria, where Lance Stroll finished eighth and a lap down on race winner, Max Verstappen in the 2021 Styrian Grand Prix last weekend.
