English Football Association has announced that the 2021-22 Men and Women’s FA Cup Finals will take place on the weekend of 14-15 May 2022.
The Men’s FA Cup will commence with the extra-preliminary round on weekend of 6-9 August 2021 with Qualifying rounds climaxing across 15-17 October, ahead of the First Round Proper containing League One and Two club plus qualified teams taking place from 5-8 November.
Premier League and Championship teams will join at the Third Round stage from 7-10 January with the Final set for Saturday 14 May, although kick-off time is set to be finalised.
Women’s FA Cup will meanwhile kick off their new campaign a week later across weekend of 14-15 August with their Extra-Preliminary Round.
Clubs in Women’s Super League and Championship will enter at the Fourth Round Stage which is scheduled for Sunday 30 January, ahead of the men’s equivalent stage which takes place a week later across weekend of 4-7 February.
Semi-Finals of both competitions are scheduled for weekend of 16-17 April with both Women’s semi-finals scheduled for the Sunday in a double-header, alongside the second semi in the men’s competition.
The 2021-22 Women’s FA Cup Final will take place on Sunday 15 May 2022, with the conclusion of 2020-21 edition set to overlap with the early stages of this season’s competition with the Final of the overlapping season set for Sunday 9 December 2020.
Speaking on the decision to hold both 2021-22 FA Cup Finals together on the same weekend, FA Director of Pro-Game Relations, Andy Ambler said: “We’re absolutely delighted that it has been possible to organise for both of our showpiece events to culminate at Wembley Stadium over the same weekend for the first time.”
FA Director of Women’s Football, Kelly Simmons added: “”I’m thrilled that we will have a whole weekend of world-class football at Wembley Stadium and I hope for a really big, vocal crowd to match the spectacle on the field.”
This season sees the start of a new TV deal for the men’s FA Cup with BT relinquishing their rights to ITV as the competition returns to full terrestrial free-to-air coverage for the first time since 2009-10 season, which only came about with ITV having exclusive rights due to Setanta Sports entering administration.
BBC meanwhile will continue to air selected coverage across Fourth, Fifth Rounds and Quarter-Finals on iPlayer and Red Button, as well as their second-pick semi-final, with the stand-out Semi-Final broadcast on terrestrial TV along with the Final.
