With the title and relegation battles all sorted, the fight for a top four finish took centre stage in the latest round of Premier League action.
Fourth-placed Chelsea were in Cup action as they lost to third-placed Leicester in this season’s FA Cup Final, which meant that Liverpool could cut their deficit to the Blues down to a point with victory at West Brom.
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds however encountered a difficult start as Matheus Pereira flicked a 15th minute long ball forward, picked up by Hal Robson Kanu who rifled beyond Alisson into the bottom left corner.
Mohamed Salah proceeded to equalise 17 minutes later after Sadio Mane intercepted Kyle Bartley, teeing up the Egyptian to fire his shot into the bottom left corner for his 22nd league goal of the season.
Liverpool thereafter set about dominating the game but had to wait until the 94th minute, as Alisson became their first goalkeeper in 129 years to score after heading in from a last-gasp set piece to snatch a 2-1 victory for the Reds.
Klopp’s Reds now sit one point behind Chelsea in fifth heading into the final two rounds of this season.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg produced an assist and goal as Tottenham climbed to sixth after comfortably defeating Wolves.
West Ham consequently dropped to seventh after only managing to snatch a 1-1 draw at Brighton, as Said Benrahma’s 87th minute strike cancelled out the Seagulls’ opener from Danny Welbeck just three minutes earlier.
Everton missed a chance to move level on points with Spurs and West Ham after suffering a shock home defeat to already relegated Sheffield United, as Daniel Jebbison fired in a seventh minute winner for the Blades on debut from Jack Robinson’s low cross.
Elsewhere, Manchester City twice came from behind to defeat Newcastle United 4-3 in a seven goal thriller at St James, which saw Pep Guardiola’s Citizens record a record 12th consecutive away victory and Ferran Torres’ first hat-trick for the champions.
Rodrigo grabbed a two minute brace assisted by Jack Harrison who also scored as Leeds ran riot in a four goal victory away at Burnley.
Nathan Tella produced his maiden Premier League goal on top of an assist as Southampton thrashed 18th placed Fulham 3-1.
Finally, Tyrick Mitchell smashed in his first-ever Premier League goal for Crystal Palace in a comeback 3-2 home win over Aston Villa, as the Eagles twice fought from behind to level the game through Christian Benteke and Wilfried Zaha.
