Alisson Becker has signed a new five-year contract to stay at Liverpool until June 2026.
Since joining Liverpool in July 2018 from AS Roma, Alisson has won three individual titles – Champions League, FIFA World Cup and Premier League, alongside various individual honours including 2018-19 Premier League Golden Glove award.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com about extending his stay at Anfield, Alisson said: “I think I didn’t waste too much time to think about that. It’s something we just built in those last three years, the confidence, the trust that I have in the club and the club has in myself.”
The Brazilian also spoke about how “really happy” he and his family are to be settled on Merseyside and can’t wait to continue his work, commenting: “I’m really glad that I can keep going on with my work here, doing a good job here. So, I’m really happy to make this decision – that is not hard for me.”
Alisson has also enjoyed international success with Brazil during his time at Liverpool with a victorious 2019 Copa America campaign, although he has since fallen to second-choice goalkeeper behind Manchester City’s Ederson and didn’t make a single international appearance in 2020.
Last season also saw Alisson endure a difficult campaign with the Reds as they scraped a Champions League finish with a third-place Premier League finish, following a disappointing title defence but the Brazilian scored his first-ever goal to seal a comeback win at West Bromwich Albion in May 2021.
Reflecting on how the difficulty of last season has benefitted him and the squad, Alisson said: “We have to set goals and we have to set them high – winning everything that we are playing [for], the Champions League, Premier League, the cups, everything. I think we can start from there.
“But obviously winning depends on what we will put on the pitch, what we will give on the pitch and we have to give 100 per cent at least. If we can push harder, we will go.”
