McLaren have unveiled a new livery for the 2021 Monaco Grand Prix weekend from 20-23 May.

The new one-off orange and white livery is in celebration of McLaren’s historical partnership with Gulf Oil International as Formula One prepares to return to Monaco, having been forced to cancel last year’s race due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The team and Gulf Oil International share ‘a deep-rooted’ history in motorsport with the retro livery serving as McLaren’s tribute to Gulf’s memorable design, in reflection of their racing connection which began in 1968.

McLaren will also carry Gulf’s racing blue colours alongside an orange stripe throughout the entire race weekend, with the design emblazoned across both race cars, race suits of Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo plus team kit and social media platforms.

Norris and Ricciardo will also sport retro helmet designs which will be raffled off after the event in aid of McLaren’s mental health charity partner, MIND.

Speaking on the decision to pay tribute to Gulf Oil in Monaco, McLaren’s Chief Executive Officer, Zak Brown said; “We’re enormous fans of brave and bold design, and the striking Gulf blue is among the most loved liveries in racing, a celebrated piece of culture which transcends the world of motorsport.”

Brown also spoke of how design has always been important to McLaren as evident throughout all their work on and off track and is ‘excited’ to be able to celebrate McLaren’s partnership with Gulf Oil International in Monaco.

Gulf Oil International CEO, Mike Jones is delighted with McLaren’s classic livery design and the decision to sport it around the streets of Monaco, described by Jones as “… the most spectacular and stylish event on the Formula 1 Calendar.”

Jones also spoke of the team’s reaction to this retro livery as feeling ‘really special’ and hopes that Monaco will serve as “… a great celebration of our bold and colourful place within the sport.”
