2020-21 Premier League: Week 35 – Liverpool vs Southampton

Liverpool welcome Southampton to Anfield in Saturday Night Football from the Premier League.

Should Tottenham lose at lunchtime to Leeds, Liverpool can go sixth with victory.

Southampton can go 13th with a win if Crystal Palace fail to win earlier on Saturday afternoon at Sheffield United.

Liverpool have no fresh injury concerns to report after last week’s trip to Manchester United was postponed, meaning that Jurgen Klopp’s Reds haven’t played for two weeks since a 1-1 draw against Newcastle.

Caoimhin Kelleher (abdominal), Joel Matip (ankle), Joe Gomez, Virgil Van Dijk (both knee), Jordan Henderson (adductor) and Divock Origi (muscle) remain ruled out.

Southampton will be without Takumi Minamino who is ineligible to face his parent club as per conditions of his loan deal.

Danny Ings (hamstring), Michael Obafemi (fitness), Ryan Bertrand (calf), Will Smallbone (knee) and and Oriol Romeu (ankle) remain absent.

Prediction

Having not played in a fortnight after their trip to Manchester United was postponed last weekend at late notice, It is going to be interesting to see how Liverpool play given that they have won just one of nine home games this season.

Southampton meanwhile did a great job to hold Leicester last weekend despite playing over 80 minutes with ten men, especially given the fact that they looked on the front foot for the majority of the game despite conceding just minutes after scoring first.

Now if Ralph Hasenhuttl can get his players to take confidence from that performance knowing Liverpool’s recent home struggles and turn up with a strong display, I think they might just get a point given their recent poor away form at Anfield.

Prediction: Liverpool 1-1 Southampton

Result: Liverpool 2-0 Southampton
