2020-21 Premier League: Week 35 – Sheffield United vs Crystal Palace

Already relegated Sheffield United welcome Crystal Palace to Bramall Lane in the second of Saturday’s four Premier League matches.

Defeat for Sheffield United here coupled with at least one point for West Brom elsewhere would see the Blades finish rock-bottom of this season’s Premier League.

Palace meanwhile are looking to cling onto 13th and surpass the 40 points mark for the eighth consecutive top-flight season, since regaining promotion in 2013.

Kean Bryan is set to be in contention for Sheffield Utd after missing their defeat at Tottenham last Sunday for personal reasons.

Ethan Ampadu is a doubt with a groin strain but Oli McBurnie (foot), Billy Sharp (muscle) and Jack O’Connell (knee) remain ruled out.

Palace could be without Wilfried Zaha after the winger struggled with a groin injury in their defeat to Manchester City last weekend.

Mamadou Sakho (thigh) and James Tomkins (eye) could return if pass late fitness tests but James McArthur (muscle), Nathan Ferguson (thigh) and Connor Wickham (knock) remain absent.

Stat Attack

  • Sheffield United have won three of their last five meetings against Crystal Palace (W3, L2).
  • Palace have won just one of their last six trips to Bramall Lane (W1, D1, L3).
  • Only the winning team has scored in the last four meetings between these two teams.
  • Rhian Brewster is the only Sheffield United striker to have played more than one through ball this season, having done so on two separate occasions.
  • Four of Christian Benteke’s six Palace goals this season have come from headers.

Prediction

Sheffield United certainly need to buckle up their ideas if they’re to go down ready to launch an immediate promotion challenge, because they were just poor at Tottenham last Sunday once Spurs had broken through and found their first goal.

Palace meanwhile did a great job of giving Man City a proper fight throughout despite the Citizens looking dominant after half-time, which will give them belief that they can come here and really cause issues despite their poor away form at Bramall Lane.

Either way, Paul Heckingbottom’s Blades do need to improve otherwise I can see an away win coming, especially if Palace turn up with their attacking quality which we saw last week and quickly get on the front foot to dictate this game.

Prediction: Sheffield United 0-2 Crystal Palace

Result: Sheffield United 0-2 Crystal Palace
