Scuderia Ferrari have unveiled their new SF21 car which is to be raced in the 2021 Formula One season.
Distinctive changes to the car includes the Mission Winnow symbol now painted in green across the engine cover, replacing the traditional black colours of last season.
Ferrari used some development token on improving the “posterior” which involved creating new transmission and suspension, with Chassis Director – Enrico Cardile believing that these changes gives the car a “tapered” rear end to the SF21.
Cardile also confirmed that there has been ‘less radical changes to the front part of the SF21, saying: “… we developed a new front wing that works with a newly conceived nose but the chassis and suspension are the same as the SF1000.”
There has also been work done to help improve the car’s aerodynamics after a difficult 2020 season with a focus on increasing aerodynamic charge and reducing drag.
Power Unit Director, Enrico Gualtieri meanwhile spoke of aiming to make the SF21 as ‘efficient as possible’, with particular focus on the internal combustion motor and “… aiming to increase its thermal efficiency…” with gains estimated at over one-tenth of a second per lap this season.
Gualtieri also spoke of revision to the turbo compressor to ensure that it meets the motor’s needs and also increase efficiency in recovering exhaust fumes, whilst the electronics aspect of the hybrid system has been revised to ensure maximum optimization.
The new car will now get its first runs tomorrow with both drivers set to do a short shakedown at the Bahrain International Circuit, Sakhir, Bahrain tomorrow (11 March) before pre-season testing takes place from Friday 12 – Sunday 14 March at the same venue.
