Lucas Digne Signs New Everton Contract

Lucas Digne has signed a new four-and-a-half year contract at Everton until June 2025.

Since joining the Toffees in August 2018 from Barcelona, Digne has provided five goals in 97 appearances across all competitions and has proved highly influential with several assists for teammates.

Digne however has spoken of how the “love supporters show me every day,” made him signing a new extended deal a simple yet easy decision to make.

Speaking to evertontv, Digne also noted how important support from fans and this decision is for his immediate future, saying: “It is something I really appreciate and it is very important for me to keep the stability.”

Everton are currently seventh in the Premier League under Carlo Ancelotti’s management and clinched their first win over Liverpool this century on Saturday, leaving Digne feeling that the club ‘can reach something very good’ in not just coming months but for the next few seasons as he aims for Europe.

Acknowledging the progress made by the club since he arrived, Digne is confident that Everton are ‘building a strong team’ just one day after Liverpool Council approved their new Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium plans.

Having been an ever-present player since returning from an ankle injury last month, the French international noted that Everton has definitely improved this season after a difficult 2019-20 campaign in which Marco Silva was sacked in December 2019 after a poor run of form.

Digne also spoken of Ancelotti bringing ‘this winning mentality which has helped  his own progress, as he said: “I played in different positions – I can adapt and I think I improved a lot this season.”

The full-back therefore feels that Ancelotti is the ‘perfect coach’ for Everton given his experience and ability in relaxing and pushing the team when necessary.
