Campos have announced that Gianluca Petecof will drive for the team in 2021 Formula Two season.
Petecof makes the step up bypassing Formula Three after winning the 2020 Formula Regional European Championship, in which he beat Arthur Leclerc and Oliver Rasmussen to the title with the latter pair having signed for F3 this season with Prema and HWA Racelab.
Petecof began his single-seater career in 2018 as he joined ADAC and Italian F4 series with Prema, where he stayed for 2019 en route to finishing 2019 Italian F4 as vice-champion.
This move therefore marks Petecof’s first season of single-seater racing outside of the Prema set-up.
The 18 year-old has described the move as a ‘honor’ and that one of Adrian Campos’ last wishes prior to his death last month was to see Petecof join Campos, leaving the Brazilian feels more motivated ‘in a special way more than ever before.’
Campos Racing Sporting Director, Adrian Campos Jr. has spoken of how ‘very excited’ the team are to welcome Petecof to the team, hailing him as ‘a professional driver and so much hunger for victory’ as the Brazilian partners Boschung for the new F2 season.
On the topic of Petecof’s huge step, Campos said: “He has made a very important step of category and will have hard work ahead, but don’t forget that he is the current champion of the Formula Regional so we all have a lot of confidence and enthusiasm in the results that Gianluca and Ralph can achieve…”
Campos also spoke of how the team ‘fought very hard’ to secure Petecof in memory of Adrian Campos Sr. who was not able to successfully complete prior to his tragic passing.
F2 will kick off their 2021 season in Bahrain across 26-28 March as part of a reduced eight round calendar, which is set to conclude in Abu Dhabi on 12 December with a new three-race weekend format.
