Movistar+ Agree Joint F1 Coverage Deal with DAZN in Spain

Movistar+ has agreed a three-year contract with DAZN to expand Formula One coverage in Spain.

This agreement comes just months after Movistar+ signed a new three-year contract, meaning that DAZN will offer full coverage on their F1 channel and will be available to Movistar+ and DAZN customers.

DAZN F1 will commence broadcast on 1 March 2021 on both Movistar+ and DAZN with full coverage of race weekends, although the new DAZN F1 channel will broadcast 24/7 even on non race weekends and include a UHD channel plus four multichannel signals.

Ex F1 driver, Pedro De La Rosa will form part of DAZN’s on-air coverage team alongside Antonio Lobato plus further names, who will be announced in coming weeks.

F1 Director of Media Rights, Ian Holmes has described this agreement as coming during “an exciting time for Spanish sport fans” as Carlos Sainz switches to Ferrari and Fernando Alonso returns to F1 with Alpine – as Renault undergo a name rebrand on top of the Spanish Grand Prix agreeing a new deal.

Holmes however is pleased that this contract ensures that more Spanish F1 fans will be able to access excellent coverage throughout the next three seasons, whilst continuing the sport’s aim of reaching new fans through modern and traditional broadcasting markets.

DAZN’s arrival also contributes towards F1’s potential reach within Spain, saying; “With Formula 1 now being available to DAZN customers, as well as on Movistar+, plus an already secured Free to Air package of rights, we have a strong capability to reach new audiences and grow the sport further in Spain.”

Movistar+ though will retain their agreed contract terms which includes enhanced coverage across digital and social media platforms on top of their 24/7 channel covering Spain and Andorra territories, alongside live broadcast of F2, F3, IndyCar, W Series and Porsche Supercup races.

Germany and Austria meanwhile begin new TV contracts this season as Sky Deutschland replaces RTL in the former, whereas ORF and ServusTV will share free-to-air coverage in the latter country.
