2020-21 Premier League: Week 15 – West Ham vs Brighton

West Ham United welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to the London Stadium in the second of a Super Sunday quadruple header in the Premier League.

West Ham will stay tenth with a win whilst Brighton could leapfrog Burnley into 16th with victory if the Clarets lose at Leeds at lunchtime.

Michail Antonio is unlikely to feature for West Ham until fully fit as he nears a return from a hamstring injury.

Manuel Lanzini (hamstring) and Arthur Masuaku (knee) are sidelined indefinitely.

Brighton could be without Tariq Lamptey after a hamstring injury kept him out of last Sunday’s draw against Sheffield United.

Jose Izquierdo (thigh) and Florian Andone (knee) are ruled out.

Stat Attack

  • West Ham are winless after six previous Premier League meetings against Brighton (D3, L3).
  • Brighton have scored three goals in two of their three Premier League trips to West Ham (W1, D2).
  • David Moyes’ Hammers have never been awarded a penalty against Brighton in six previous Premier League meetings, with Seagulls scoring from their only spot-kick.
  • No Brighton player has made more than one assist this season with exception of Pascal Gross, who has assisted in two league goals.
  • West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen has scored three of his four league goals in 14 appearances this season on his left foot.

Prediction

West Ham gave Chelsea a right battle last time out but momentary lapses in defending proved the difference between those two teams, although the Hammers can take heart from their performance coming into this bogey match.

Brighton meanwhile found themselves in a real scrappy encounter against Sheffield Utd because although they create chances, they just lack the penetration needed to constantly hurt teams in terms of finishing but are often defensively difficult to break down at times.

I therefore am not expecting to see a thriller here but if West Ham can show more clinical finishing and focus, a score draw is a good bet.

Prediction: West Ham 1-1 Brighton
