Stat Attack

  • This is the first-ever Premier League meeting between Leeds and Burnley.
  • Leeds have won just one of their last five league matches against Burnley (W1, D1, L3).
  • Burnley have won just one of their last seven trips to Elland Road (W1, D1, L5).
  • Ashley Barnes’ header against Wolves last Monday was the first headed goal by a Burnley player in 92 days since Jimmy Dunne scored against Leicester on Sunday 20 September.
  • Leeds’ Illan Meslier has conceded more goals than any other goalkeeper in the opening 14 matchweeks of this season, conceding 30 goals in 14 league appearances.
  • Clarets’ Josh Brownhill has made more interceptions than any other Premier League player so far this season, intercepting the ball on 36 occasions in 12 league appearances.

Prediction

Leeds certainly found themselves in deep scraps in their last two matches with contrasting results but their defending and Meslier were woeful and at fault for several of Manchester United’s goals last Sunday, which is a worry because they just can’t stop leaking silly goals at present.

Burnley meanwhile dug deep in an entertaining encounter against Wolves last Monday, of which they took their chances to extend their recent strong form unlike their visitors which will certainly boost their confidence coming into this game.

This however is likely to be a high tempo physical match given the attacking quality in both teams but Leeds will need to be clever to beat Nick Pope, whereas Burnley should be able to deliver a clinical counter-attack performance with their clinical touch and solid defence proving the difference.

Prediction: Leeds 1-2 Burnley

Result: Leeds 1-0 Burnley
