2020-21 Premier League: Week 15 – Liverpool vs West Brom

Liverpool welcome West Bromwich Albion to Anfield in the third of a Super Sunday quadruple header in the Premier League.

Victory will see Liverpool move five points clear of Merseyside rivals, Everton at the Premier League summit, whereas West Brom will remain second bottom regardless of what happens but can reduce their gap to safety with a win here.

James Milner could return for Liverpool after missing their last six matches in all competitions with a hamstring injury.

Xherdan Shaqiri (muscle) is also in contention to feature but Diogo Jota, Konstantinos Tsimikas, Joe Gomez, Thiago Alcantara and Virgil Van Dijk (all knee) remain sidelined.

West Brom will have Matheus Pereira back in contention after he missed their last three games through suspension.

Kyle Bartley (calf), Conor Townsend (knee), Hal Robson-Kanu (wrist) and Jake Livermore (suspension) miss out.

Stat Attack

  • Liverpool are unbeaten in their last ten league matches against West Brom (W4, D6)
  • West Brom have taken just two points from their last five trips to Anfield (D2, L3).
  • Both teams have missed one penalty each in 24 previous Premier League meetings, with West Brom scoring one of two spot-kicks to Liverpool’s five in six penalties.
  • Baggies’ Sam Johnstone has made more saves than any other goalkeeper in the opening 14 matchweeks, having made 63 saves in 14 appearances.
  • Mohamed Salah has fired 25 shots on target so far this season for Liverpool, which is more than any other Premier League player has managed coming into this matchweek for their clubs.

Prediction

Liverpool come into this game off the back of a superbly clinical display against Crystal Palace last weekend and given how defensively woeful West Brom were against Villa with exception of Sam Johnstone, I think this could well be a case of how many goals can Jurgen Klopp’s Reds win by here.

West Brom meanwhile play Leeds less than 48 hours after this match and I reckon they should prioritise that game in terms of having a greater chance at victory, although their defending will be key in terms of how much they lose this game by because Johnstone will be difficult to get past if Liverpool are to score.

Prediction: Liverpool 3-0 WBA

Result: Liverpool 1-1 WBA
