Lirim Zendeli will graduate into Formula Two as he joins MP Motorsport for 2021 season.
Zendeli makes the step up after finishing eighth in Formula Three this season with three podiums consisting of one win and two second-placed finishes.
Speaking on his move up to F2 with MP Motorsport, Zendeli said; “I’m very happy to be driving for MP Motorsport for my first year in Formula 2.”
MP Motorsport this year took four victories in F2 which particularly impressed Zendeli, saying; “With four victories, they showed true race-winning form in 2020, and I am eager to add to their success in 2021.”
Zendeli enjoyed a solid post-season test with the Dutch team in Bahrain in which the German described as “extremely productive” with the sixth fastest time on the final day and is “confident that we will be able to feature right at the front as soon as the season gets underway.”
MP Motorsport Team Principal, Sander Dorsman spoke highly of Zendeli’s performance in Bahrain, saying; “We worked well together in last week’s test and I’m looking forward to a season that will hopefully see us challenge for wins. I’m sure he will do well in his debut season in Formula 2.”
Zendeli begun his single-seater career racing in German F4 from 2016 until 2018, winning the title in his last season at that level before joining the newly branded F3 championship in 2019 with Charouz, where he finished 18th in the standings with just six points and second overall for the team behind Fabio Scherer by one point.
2020 however saw Zendeli switch to Trident where he improved to an eighth placed finish but yet again finished as the team’s second best driver, this time behind fellow German, David Beckmann who finished sixth in the championship.
MP Motorsport will announce their second F2 driver for next season in due course after Felipe Drugovich departed the team at end of this season for rivals, UNI-Virtuosi.
