Bristol City welcome Blackburn Rovers to Ashton Gate as both teams look to boost their promotion ambitions in Wednesday’s big Sky Bet Championship clash.
Victory could put the Robins sixth whilst Blackburn can leapfrog their hosts with a win and climb to sixth, although both teams would need Brentford to lose to Derby in order for them to climb into the last play-off spot.
Team News
Jamie Paterson is a doubt for Bristol City with an ongoing knee injury which saw him miss Saturday’s defeat to Birmingham.
Alfie Mawson, Andreas Weimann, Joe Williams (all knee), Liam Walsh (quad), Steven Sessegnon and Nathan Baker (both hamstring) are still sidelined.
Blackburn will be without Scott Wharton after he suffered an Achilles injury in Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Brentford.
Darragh Lenihan (suspension), Barry Douglas (muscle) and Derrick Williams (thigh) are doubts whilst Lewis Travis (knee) and Elliott Bennett (ankle) remain sidelined.
Stat Attack
- Bristol City have lost just two of their last seven meetings against Blackburn (W3, D2, L2).
- Blackburn have won three of their last five trips to Ashton Gate (W3, L2).
- Nakhi Wells have scored in two of his last three Bristol City appearances.
Prediction
Bristol City come into this match with two defeats in their last three although their performances in those games have been quite contrasting so it is difficult to predict what sort of team they will put out, although their defending does need to improve if want to push for promotion.
Blackburn meanwhile showed great spirit to snatch a point at Brentford with ten men after taking the lead when had 11 players on the pitch, underlining just how dangerous this Rovers team can be on their day, yet clean sheets are their biggest issue with one clean sheet in their last six matches.
This therefore will definitely be a tough contest between two teams with excellent quality up front but currently have defensive issues with various players out injured, although I am going for a Rovers win because they seem to have confidence and momentum at present.
Prediction: Bristol City 0-1 Blackburn
Result: Bristol City 1-0 Blackburn
