Ralph Boschung is to replace Jack Aitken at Campos for Formula Two 2020 season finale in Sakhir, Bahrain, this weekend.
Aitken has been called up by Williams for his Formula One debut after their regular driver and 2018 F2 champion, George Russell was promoted to Mercedes, replacing Lewis Hamilton who will miss this weekend after a positive Coronavirus test.
Boschung who signed a new contract to race for Campos in F2 next season earlier this week will now make his return this weekend as he takes over Aitken’s number nine Campos.
Speaking on the decision to give Boschung an earlier return than planned, Campos Team Principal, Adrian Campos said; “We are glad to have Ralph with us this weekend as it will give us a nice opportunity to start working together for next year,”
Campos also urged Boschung to make the most of this early opportunity ahead of next season, saying; “In such a professional racing environment, it is a golden chance for everybody.”
On the topic of this weekend’s new outer-track layout with lap times set to be around one minute at best, Campos is looking for a “strong run” with both Boschung and Guilherme Samaia on a track which he believes “looks exciting.”
Boschung’s early arrival at Campos marks the fifth time that there has been a driver change in F2 this season after Juri Vips replaced the injured Sean Gelael at DAMS for four rounds, whilst Giuliano Alesi switched to MP Motorsport to replace Nobuharu Matsushita from Sochi onwards with HWA Racelab filling the Frenchman’s seat with Jake Hughes then Theo Pourchaire.
