Coventry City take on Birmingham City at St Andrew’s in a blockbuster Friday Night Football clash from Sky Bet Championship.
Victory will lift Coventry four points clear of the drop whilst Birmingham can rise to 12th with a win ahead of the weekend’s matches.
Julien Dacosta is ruled out for Coventry after needing surgery on a long-term injury which had limited him to just one first-team appearance this season.
Matty Godden (foot), Gustavo Hamer (Achilles) and Fankaty Dabo (back/hamstring) could all return if can prove their match fitness in time.
Birmingham will be without defender, Jake Clarke-Salter due to an ongoing calf injury.
- Coventry have won just one of their last five meetings against Birmingham City in all competitions (W1, D2, L2).
- Birmingham are winless in their last four away matches against Coventry (D2, L2), although both teams played out a goalless draw in their Fourth Round tie of last season’s FA Cup which was the first time both teams collided as tenants and landlords at St Andrew’s respectively before Birmingham won the replay on penalties.
- Five of Coventry’s last six goals have come in the second-half with exception of Gustavo Hamer’s opener in a 3-2 win against Reading in late October.
Coventry’s biggest issue this season seems to be defending because they are capable of scoring with goals in seven of 11 league games so far this season, yet their defending is what ultimately been costing them vital points because they could of easily picked up four points from their last two matches after fighting back from behind.
Birmingham are also in a similar rut but the Brummies have been able to score more consistently in terms of consecutive games and grind out narrow results when not winning, which is a huge positive coming into this clash as weirdly the away team at their own ground where they need every confidence boost possible physiologically.
Much of what happens within this match though will boil down to defending given the defensive issues of both teams but given that Coventry can never be written off, I am going for a score draw.
Prediction: Coventry 1-1 Birmingham
Result: Coventry 0-0 Birmingham
