Coventry City look to instantly climb out of the relegation zone as they welcome Sky Bet Championship leaders, Reading to St Andrew’s in Friday Night Football.
A win for Coventry will see them climb to 18th ahead of Saturday’s matches whilst Reading can build a nine point gap at the summit to second-placed Bournemouth with victory.
Coventry have no fresh injury concerns to report after Tuesday’s defeat at Middlesbrough, although manager, Mark Robins is set to rotate his squad.
Brandon Mason, Jodie Jones, Wes Jobello (all knee), Will Bapaga (shoulder), Julien Dacosta (ankle) and Marcel Hilssner (personal) remain absent.
Reading could welcome Ovie Ejaria back into the starting eleven after the midfielder missed their midweek win at Blackburn through muscle fatigue.
John Swift (hamstring), Sam Baldock (calf), Felipe Araruna and Andy Yiadom (both knee) are ruled out.
- Coventry are winless in their last ten meetings against Reading (D5, L5).
- Reading have won one of their last six away ties against Coventry (W1, D4, L1).
- Three of last five draws between Coventry and Reading have finished goalless.
Coventry produced a solid midweek performance at Boro but tiny defensive errors when pushing higher up the pitch proved costly late on, although they do need to show more attack and take their chances which will be crucial here against the league leaders.
Reading meanwhile just seem difficult to beat despite often not dominating matches including away at their weaker grounds yet know when to turn up and deliver an attacking performance when needed.
Fans should therefore expect a competitive match with Reading dominating as the stronger team but if Coventry can produce another defensive display, I can see a draw here but I have a feeling that Reading will get the win plus a clean sheet.
Prediction: Coventry 0-2 Reading
Result: Coventry 3-2 Reading
