FA Women Super League (WSL) has announced the opening two sets of fixtures for the start of the 2020-21 season.
Reigning champions, Chelsea face a tough start as they visit Manchester United on 6 September 2020, before then hosting Bristol City seven days later on 13 September.
Newly promoted Aston Villa start their maiden WSL campaign at home to last season’s runners-up, Manchester City before visiting Reading a week later.
Last season’s eighth-placed finishers, West Ham kick start their campaign with two mouth-watering London derbies as they make the short trip to Tottenham before hosting Arsenal just a week later.
Down in the Women’s Championship, newly relegated Liverpool face a tough opening day test at home to Durham followed by a trip to the London Bees seven days later.
Sheffield United who missed out on promotion to WSL after the season was curtailed starts with a trip to the London City Lionesses, followed by a home clash against FA Cup Quarter-Finalists – Leicester City just a week later.
Due to uncertainty surrounding fixture scheduling in the men’s football calendar and fact that some men and women teams share same home venues, WSL decided to release only the opening two rounds in the short term.
The 2020-21 WSL season will commence across the weekend of 5/6 September.
