2019-20 Premier League: Week 32 – Aston Villa vs Wolves

Aston Villa welcome Wolves to Villa Park in a huge Premier League clash as the hosts look to boost their survival bid with victory.

A win or draw for Villa would lift them out of the relegation zone, whilst Wolves know that a similar result would see them leapfrog Manchester United into fifth.

Frederic Guilbert and Danny Drinkwater are in contention to feature if can pass late fitness tests, following respective knee and fitness issues.

Tom Heaton, Wesley (both knee) and Bjorn Engels (Achilles) are ruled out.

Wolves have no fresh injury concerns to report after Wednesday’s win over Bournemouth.

Stat Attack

  • Aston Villa have won two of their last five meetings against Wolves in all competitions (W2, L3).
  • Five of Wolves’ last six goals against Villa have come from their strikers, with exception of Ruben Neves in the reverse fixture back in November.
  • Villa have lost just one of their last 14 home games against Wolves in all competitions (W10, D3, L1).
  • Tyrone Mings has made 44 blocks in 26 league appearances this season, more than any other player.
  • Outside of the top two teams (Liverpool and Manchester City), no player has made more assists than Wolves’ Adama Traore with nine assists.

Villa have shown strong signs of improvement since the restart going forward but their defence still remains their Achilles heel, especially given how they gave Newcastle an easy opener in midweek within plenty of space.

Wolves however look like a well drilled machine built to withstand barrage of attacks as they grow into the game, before slowly turning the screws after half-time with Adama Traore’s pace at the heart of their attacking moves.

I therefore am expecting a good attacking game here and although Villa Park has been a bogey ground for Wolves, I do feel that they will get the win if continue to play the way that they have and Villa’s defence is often inconsistent at times.

Prediction: Aston Villa 1-2 Wolves

Result: Aston Villa 0-1 Wolves
