Everton have appointed Carlo Ancelotti as their new manager on a four and a half year deal until Summer 2024.
Ancelotti will attend this afternoon’s match against Arsenal in the Director Box before officially taking charge of training from tomorrow.
His first match in the dugout will be at home to Burnley on Boxing Day, which can be watched live on Amazon Prime.
Speaking after his appointment, Ancelotti spoke of the club’s vision and desire to deliver success, saying; “There is a clear vision from the Owner and the Board to deliver success and trophies.
That is something that appeals to me as a manager and I am thrilled at the prospect of being able to work with everybody at the Club to help make that vision a reality.”
Ancelotti also paid tribute to caretaker manager – Duncan Ferguson who will remain with the club as part of his coaching staff, saying; “The work Duncan has done is a great credit to him. Strong organisation, strong discipline and the right motivation are some of the key ingredients in football and I’m pleased that he will be part of my backroom team moving forward.”
Everton’s Director of Football – Marcel Brands has spoken about the ‘clear and exciting’ appointment and said; “He is the perfect appointment for us. He embraces our vision for the Club and we are sure that his enthusiasm to take the helm at Goodison together with his tactical abilities and well-renowned man-management will make him successful in this role.
‘Tough Test’
Ancelotti will bring plenty of experience with 20 trophies including a league and cup double with Chelsea in 2009-10, although a disappointing title defence the following campaign resulted in his sacking which coincidentally came at Goodison Park.
He however faces a tough test to turn Everton from mid-table contenders into a trophy challenging team, given that the Toffees currently don’t have the depth in comparison to their rivals and a injury crisis with little cover in various positions.
Everton fans therefore should give him time to impose his philopshy because there will definitely be some movement in and out of the door during next month’s transfer window, as he shapes his squad.
