2019-20 Premier League: Week 17 – Sheffield United vs Aston Villa

Sheffield United continue their top five mission as they welcome relegation battling Aston Villa to Bramall Lane.

A win will temporarily send Sheffield United fifth for at least 23 hours whilst Villa can move away from the drop zone with ideally three points.

Lys Mousset is set to be available for Sheffield United after overcoming a knock, which forced him off at Norwich last Sunday.

Villa will be without Tyrone Mings due to a hamstring injury suffered during their home defeat to Leicester last Sunday.

Matt Targett however is set to feature despite being substituted with an undisclosed injury in the same match.

Keinan Davis (thigh) is unlikely to feature but could be ready for their midweek clash with Liverpool in the Carabao Cup, whilst Jed Steer (Achilles) is still absent.

Form

Sheffield United are unbeaten in four of their last five matches (W1, D3, L1), whilst drawing blank in just three of their eight home league games so far this season.

Villa have taken just four points from their last six games (W1, D1, L4), despite scoring in each of those six outings.

Stat Attack

  • Sheffield United are unbeaten in three of their last four meetings with Aston Villa (W1, D2, L1).
  • The Blades have taken just a single point from six previous Premier League meetings with Villa (D1, L5).
  • Villa have scored in each of their last eight league trips to Bramall Lane (W5, D1, L2)
  • Eight of Oli McBurnie’s 14 appearances for Sheffield Utd has come as a substitute.
  • Villa has made just three errors which led to a goal in comparison to the Blades’ six.

Prediction

Sheffield United continue to impress because they bounced back from defeat to Newcastle just over a week ago, by coming from behind to defeat Norwich which sums up their character because they fight for every possible point.

Villa meanwhile just aren’t consistent at the back and Mings’ injury will only weaken their rear-guard coming into this clash, although their attacking quality will keep this contest going for longer than it realistically would based on overall quality.

I however can see Sheffield United winning this because they’re the stronger team and their work rate will eventually crack Villa’s defence apart.

Prediction: Sheffield United 2-1 Aston Villa

Result: Sheffield United 2-0 Aston Villa
