2019-20 Sky Bet Championship: Week 13 Roundup

After a hectic midweek round of fixtures, West Bromwich Albion continue to lead the way at the Sky Bet Championship summit. 

Leaders, West Brom received an almighty scare when a first-half brace from Cauley Woodrow put Barnsley in control at the break.

A headed 68th minute own goal from Bambo Diaby then triggered a fightback which was completed 13 minutes later, when Matheus Pereira headed in Conor Townsend’s cross to earn the Baggies a 2-2 draw and ensure that they stayed top whilst Barnsley remain bottom.

Leeds meanwhile clung onto second after a late Eddie Nketiah header rescued them a draw at sixth-placed Preston, who had initially led through Tom Barkhuizen’s opener from a counter-attack.

Massimo Luongo’s effort sent Sheffield Wednesday third in a narrow victory over second-bottom Stoke, whilst Bristol City are up to fourth after goals from Famara Diedhiou and Brownhill completed a comeback win over Charlton who initially led through McAuley Bonne. 

QPR stay fifth after George Puscas and Sam Baldock struck to twice cancel out the West Londoners’ lead in a entertaining 2-2 draw. 

Down at the bottom, Huddersfield remain just inside the relegation zone after contesting a goalless home draw with Middlesbrough.

Elsewhere, Aleksandar Mitrovic’s hat-trick proved enough for Fulham to take a 3-2 win over Luton, who briefly fought back through Dan Potts’s header before Kazenga LuaLua netted a late consolation for the Hatters. 

Nottingham Forest suffered their second consecutive defeat of the season after Jon Toral set up strikes from Josh Magennis then Jarrod Bowen for a Hull win, despite Matty Cash’s 53rd minute strike halving the deficit. 

Swansea meanwhile have now gone three matches without victory after losing 3-0 at home to Brentford, in which Jake Bidwell conceded their second by poking Ollie Watkins’ through ball into his own net. 

Millwall held Cardiff to a 2-2 draw at The Den after Tom Bradshaw scored a brace either side of goals from Danny Ward and Junior Hoilett, as Gary Rowett was named as the Lions’ new manager on Monday evening. 

Finally, Derby and Birmingham took single goal home victories over Wigan and Blackburn as all four teams sit in mid-table.
