Rangers face a tough test of their Europa League credentials as they visit Porto in Group G at the Estadio do Dragao.
With all teams having taken a win and loss from their opening two fixtures, Group G is finely poised and victory for either Porto or Rangers could be key to their qualification hopes.
Team news
Embed from Getty ImagesPorto could have Moussa Marega available after three weeks out with injury.
Manager, Sergio Conceicao however will again rotate his squad with Agustin Marchesin set to return in goal after sitting out their 5-0 Cup win at the weekend.
Rangers have a full squad available although Ryan Jack and Ryan Kent are unlikely to start as they continue to slowly rebuild full match fitness after recent injuries.
Stat Attack
- Rangers are unbeaten in two previous meetings with Porto which both came in the Group Stage of the 2005-06 Champions League edition (W1, D1).
- Porto have won just one of their last four European away games (W1, L3).
- Four of Rangers’ last six European goals have come before half-time.
Prediction
After a disappointing league draw with Hearts on Sunday, Rangers need to raise their game because Porto do boast several players who will punish any mistakes from the Gers.
I however can see Rangers producing an upset because whilst not at their best on Sunday, it felt like they were saving themselves a bit for this clash which is surely key to their knockout hopes.
We should therefore see a tough scrappy encounter and I wouldn’t be surprised if Rangers can take a draw here, if not the win.
Prediction: Porto 1-1 Rangers
Result: Porto 1-1 Rangers
