2019-20 Sky Bet Championship: Week 12 – Friday

Cardiff City kick off this weekend’s Sky Bet Championship action as they take on Sheffield Wednesday at the Cardiff City Stadium.

A home win will send the Bluebirds ninth and level on points with Wednesday, who are looking to climb into the top two if can take all three points.

Cardiff are set to have midfielder Joe Ralls available after he missed their last two matches with a groin injury.

Matthew Connolly meanwhile is a doubt as he continues to close in on a return from a long-term ankle injury.

Jazz Richards (ankle), Sol Bamba (knee) and Isaac Vassell (thigh) are all definitely ruled out until November.

Sheffield Wednesday will be without Massimo Luongo due to a knee injury picked up before the international break.

New loan signing, David Bates is also sidelined as he continues to recover from a groin injury.

Form

Cardiff saw a seven match unbeaten run ended in a 4-2 defeat at West Brom just before the international break, although the Bluebirds are yet to lose at home in the league this season.

Sheffield Wednesday have lost one of their last six matches in all competitions and Steven Fletcher has netted in three of their last four away games.

Stat Attack

  • Cardiff are winless in their last five meetings with Sheffield Wednesday (D3, L2).
  • Eight of Cardiff’s last starting eleven against Wednesday in January 2018 remain with the club, as Marko Grujic, Yanic Wildschut and Kenneth Zohore are the only starters who have since moved on.
  • Wednesday are yet to draw an away trip this season in all competitions.

Prediction

I can see a competitive game here because Cardiff are finally finding their best form again, whilst Sheffield Wednesday are doing well under Gary Monk but remain inconsistent on the road.

Cardiff however aren’t so strong themselves given that they are overall inconsistent despite winning all four home games, which adds another layer of intrigue to this game so a draw would be a positive result for both teams.

Prediction: Cardiff City 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday

Result: Cardiff City 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday
