2019-20 Europa League: Group Stage – Besiktas vs Wolves

After taking their first domestic win of the season at the weekend, Wolverhampton Wanderers are back in Europa League action as they visit Besiktas at Vodafone Park.

Wolves suffered their first European defeat of the season last time out at home to Braga, so will be hoping to make amends against a Besiktas side who sit bottom of Group K.

Team news

ELNENY

Mohamed Elneny and Adem Ljajic are available for Besiktas after serving domestic bans at the weekend.

Victor Ruiz however is absent in defence with injury whilst fellow defender, Enzo Roco is a doubt.

Wolves are set to be without Diogo Jota due to a foot injury but otherwise have a full squad available.

Stat Attack

  • This is Besiktas’ first ever meeting with Wolves in all competitions.
  • Besiktas have won their last three home meetings with English opposition, with their last two victories coming by 1-0 results against Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool during the 2014-15 tournament.
  • Wolves have conceded just three goals in their three qualifying away games, whilst scoring 11 themselves.

Prediction

Wolves come into this game unbeaten on their European travels and have avoided defeat in their last two domestic games, so confidence will be high against an inconsistent Besiktas who still are yet to lose at home this season.

I therefore am expecting Nuno Espirito Santo to have a solid game plan to counter Besiktas’ strong midfield, which should be enough given the firepower and variety that Wolves have to trouble the Black Eagles.

A draw would therefore be a decent result but I am going for an away win.

Prediction: Besiktas 1-2 Wolves

Result: Besiktas 0-1 Wolves
