2019-20 Sky Bet Championship: Week Eight Roundup

Leeds United remain top of the Sky Bet Championship after a relatively quiet weekend of action.

Derby’s Max Lowe accidentally bundled Kelle Roos’ clearance from Stuart Dallas’ shot into his own net to give Leeds an early lead, only for Chris Martin to come on off the bench and rescue a point with a 91st minute strike from Jamie Paterson’s lay-off.

Swansea then missed their chance to reclaim top spot after they were held to a goalless draw away at Bristol City, who consequently slipped out of the top six as Sean Maguire struck for Preston as they went third after scraping past Birmingham City.

West Brom came from behind twice to see off bottom-placed Huddersfield in an eventual 4-2 win as Matt Phillips netted a brace in a clash, which saw the Baggies twice come from behind before sealing the win with a Phillips smash before Semi Ajayi completed victory with a late header to go fourth.

Nakhi Wells’ brace either side of Shaun Hutchinson’s strike helped QPR to a 2-1 away win over London rivals – Millwall, as the Hoops climbed to fifth ahead of Nottingham Forest who squeezed past third-bottom Barnsley with a Ben Watson effort.

Dunkley

Elsewhere, Chey Dunkley’s double from set pieces helped Wigan condemn Charlton to consecutive league defeats for the first time this season.

Luton fell to a 3-0 home loss against Hull whilst Ashley Fletcher’s second minute headed own goal helped Cardiff beat Middlesbrough in a mid-table clash.

Goals from Adam Armstrong and Bradley Dack proved enough for Blackburn as they saw off Reading, despite John Swift’s 57th minute rebound halving the Royals’ deficit.

Finally, second-bottom Stoke held Brentford to a goalless draw whilst Atdhe Nuhiu’s injury-time header rescued Sheffield Wednesday a late point at home to Fulham, who had led through Tom Cairney’s 42nd minute rebound goal.
