2019-20 Sky Bet Championship: Week Eight – Sunday

West Bromwich Albion welcome Danny Cowley’s Huddersfield Town to the Hawthorns for a Sunday dose of Championship football.

Victory for West Brom will lift them up to fourth whilst Huddersfield will move off the bottom if they at least get one point.

Kieran Gibbs remains ruled out for West Brom with an ankle injury that has kept him sidelined in recent weeks.

Conor Townsend (back) is also ruled out along with Ahmed Hegazi who has resumed training this week, after having surgery on an ankle injury picked up in pre-season.

Huddersfield could be without Alex Pritchard as he continues to struggle to shake off an ankle injury, which kept him out of last weekend’s Yorkshire derby defeat against Sheffield Wednesday.

Collin Quaner meanwhile is set to miss out after picking up a contact injury last weekend.

West Brom are still unbeaten but have worryingly drawn five of their seven league games so far, despite leading in just one match which is the only game in which they have led this season.

Huddersfield have lost six of their seven league outings with their solitary point coming away at QPR, whilst they lost their last two away trips by 2-1 results to Cardiff then Luton.

Stat Attack

  • West Brom have lost two of their last five meetings with Huddersfield in all competitions, although both defeats came in the 2017-18 Premier League season (W2, D1, L2).
  • Both teams have scored in three of their last four meetings at the Hawthorns.
  • 14 players from the last meeting between these teams in February 2018 are currently still with their club with West Brom keeping six whilst Huddersfield still have eight players from that teamsheet.

West Brom should be placing higher than where they are currently but they are just solid without any clinical spark which develops throughout each match, which is a real worry if they’re to challenge for promotion.

Huddersfield meanwhile are just bereft of any confidence individually never mind as a team at the minute, although a full first week’s training under the Cowley brothers should of hopefully reinstalled some of that belief.

This therefore should be an interesting clash if add in their poor defensive records but West Brom have a habit of clawing undeserved points, so am going for a tight home win.

Prediction: West Bromwich Albion 1-0 Huddersfield Town

Result: West Bromwich Albion 4-2 Huddersfield Town
