2019-20 Sky Bet Championship: Week Five – Saturday

This weekend’s blockbuster clash sees Sky Bet Championship leaders, Leeds visit rock-bottom Stoke City at the BET365 Stadium.

Victory will see Leeds stay top whilst Stoke could move out of the relegation zone if they can take all three points.

Stoke goalkeeper, Jack Butland could be dropped after a poor start to the season with Adam Federici.

Ryan Shawcross remains the Potters’ only absentee with a long-term calf injury.

Leeds will again be without Luke Ayling and Tyler Roberts as the pair continue their recovery from respective ankle and knee injuries.

Liam Cooper, Stuart Dallas and Barry Douglas are all doubts with various niggles.

Form

Stoke enter this match with one point from four league games, although they have scored at least once in all four outings.

Leeds meanwhile sit top with three wins and a draw and Patrick Bamford has three goals from their two away games so far.

Stat Attack

  • Stoke have lost just one of their last five meetings with Leeds (W3, D1, L1).
  • Both teams have scored in each of the last three meetings with the home team winning on each occasion.
  • Leeds have conceded just twice in their four opening games this season, compared to four conceded goals at this stage last season.
  • Stoke are winless in their last ten league games, dating back to April since beating Blackburn away through Oghenekaro Etebo although they have failed to score on just two occasions since that match.
  • If Leeds avoid defeat here, this will be the fourth in five seasons in which they failed to lose any of their five opening league games.

Prediction

Stoke just seem to be in defensive freefall because going forward they’re decent but unless there is a marked improvement in their back lines, I can see a comfortable away win here.

Prediction: Stoke City 1-3 Leeds United

Result: Stoke City 0-3 Leeds United
