2019-20 Premier League: Week Three – Liverpool vs Arsenal

Liverpool welcome Arsenal to Anfield as both teams look to continue their unbeaten starts to the season.

Victory for either team will see the move top irrespective of what happens on Super Sunday.

Liverpool have no fresh injury concerns to report as Alisson (calf), Nathaniel Clyne (knee) and Naby Keita (muscle) all remain sidelined.

Arsenal could have Mesut Ozil available for the first time this season after security issues kept him out of their opening two matches.

Granit Xhaka (back) is also in contention to start as Kieran Tierney, Konstantinos Mavropanos (both groin), Rob Holding and Hector Bellerin (both knee) remain ruled out.

Form

Liverpool are unbeaten in their opening three matches across all competitions, scoring eight and conceding four.

Arsenal also enter this match unbeaten with two league wins after taking victories against Burnley and Newcastle.

Stat Attack

  • Liverpool are on an eight match unbeaten run against Arsenal (W4, D4).
  • Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino has scored seven goals in four appearances against Arsenal at Anfield.
  • Arsenal have opened the scoring just once in their last five meetings with Liverpool, doing so at Anfield last season through Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
  • Trent Alexander-Arnold’s is the league’s current top scorer with 22 crosses alongside Leicester’s James Maddison.
  • Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been offside four times so far this season, just as many times as Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling.

Prediction

With both teams in strong form, this should be a great match to watch but Arsenal need their defence to be aware because if Liverpool apply their usual high pressure and sharp clinical finishing then there will be one winner.

I however can’t see this being a typical high scoring game like recent seasons just gone, given the closer quality in both teams.

Prediction: Liverpool 2-1 Arsenal

Result: Liverpool 3-1 Arsenal
