Huddersfield begin life after Jan Siewert with a trip to fellow relegated rivals, Cardiff City as they meet at the Cardiff City Stadium in Wednesday’s big Sky Bet Championship tie.
Both teams are currently near the bottom rather than challenging for promotion, making this a crucial clash if either are to fight for an instant return to the top flight.
Team news
Embed from Getty ImagesCardiff are set to be without summer signing, Marlon Pack after he limped out of Sunday’s defeat at Reading with a leg injury.
Lee Peltier however could return after missing Sunday’s trip with an ankle issue, which required an injection whilst Isaac Vassell could make his first appearance since joining on deadline day.
Huddersfield interim manager, Mark Hudson has a full squad available for selection as Fraizer Campbell and Trevor Chalobah look to start their first league game for the Terriers.
Form
Cardiff have lost two of their first three matches, although both defeats came on the road either side of a 2-1 home win over Luton through a 96th minute winner from Isaac Vassell.
Huddersfield have also taken two defeats from their three opening league games, although both losses were at home whilst they drew 1-1 at QPR in their first away game of the season.
Stat Attack
- Cardiff are unbeaten in their last ten league meetings with Huddersfield (W6, D4).
- Both meetings last season in the Premier League finished goalless, which is the first time since 1928-29 season when both meetings in same season were drawn although it was the first to see both matches in same season end in 0-0 draws.
- Cardiff have kept three consecutive clean sheets in their last three meetings, which is their longest run without conceding in this fixture.
Prediction
With Siewert now gone, Huddersfield really need to produce a reaction here because we have already seen how strong their attack is as demonstrated by Karlan Grant scoring in every league game so far, yet their defence does still leave a lot to be desired.
Cardiff however are coming into this off the back of an embarrassing defeat at Reading so I am expecting a proper battle between two promotion favourites who are currently underperforming.
Ultimately, the Bluebirds currently hold the better record over Huddersfield but with both meetings last season finishing goalless, I am going for a score draw here.
Prediction: Cardiff City 1-1 Huddersfield Town
Result: Cardiff City 2-1 Huddersfield Town
