2018-19 Premier League: Week 38 – Crystal Palace vs Bournemouth

Crystal Palace welcome Bournemouth to Selhurst Park as both sides aim to set new club points record in the Premier League.

A win for Palace will see them match their best tally of 49 points from the 1992-93 season (albeit that season had 22 teams) but would be their best return from a 20 team season in the top flight.

Bournemouth meanwhile know that victory will beat their current best tally of 46 points set in 2016-17 season, although they won’t finish ninth like they did that season.

Christian Benteke is set to return for Crystal Palace after sitting out their away win over Cardiff last weekend with a cheekbone injury.

Scott Dan however is a doubt after picking up a strain in training on Friday and will therefore face a late fitness test.

James Tomkins (groin), Jeffrey Schlupp (ankle) and Mamadou Sakho (knee) are all sidelined.

Bournemouth have no fresh injury concerns coming into this game as several players remain sidelined

Dan Gosling (calf), Dominic Solanke (hamstring) and David Brooks (ankle) are all ruled out despite having battled to be fit for the Cherries’ final match of this season.

Charlie Daniels, Simon Francis, Junior Stanislas and Lewis Cook remain out with knee injuries, whilst Andrew Surman (calf) and Diego Rico (ankle) are also out.

Form

Crystal Palace have taken ten points from their last five matches but have collected just four from their last five home games.

Bournemouth are unbeaten in three of their last four games with seven points collected from that run, and the same amount collected from their last four on the road.

Stat Attack

  • Crystal Palace have lost one of last five meetings with Bournemouth (W1, D3, L1).
  • Last two meetings at Selhurst Park between these teams have ended in respective 1-1 then 2-2 draws, with five of those goals coming in the first half.
  • Palace’s Luka Milivojevic has scored in two of his last three appearances against Bournemouth.
  • Bournemouth have the top two combined club assistants with Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson managing to assist in 23 goals between them, more than Liverpool (22) and Manchester City’s (20) top two combined goal assistants.
  • Wilfried Zaha is yet to score for Palace from outside the box this season unlike Bournemouth’s Ryan Fraser who has scored once from outside the box.

Prediction

Both teams were at their attacking best last weekend and have with the opportunity to set new club records here, I am expecting a good attacking game between two strong teams.

Selhurst Park however has proven tricky for Palace this season so a point here would be a decent finish to this season.

Prediction: Crystal Palace 1-1 Bournemouth

Jake predicts: Crystal Palace 1-0 Bournemouth

Result: Crystal Palace 5-3 Bournemouth
