Liverpool returned to the Premier League summit after a second depleted weekend of fixtures in last three rounds.
Southampton gave Liverpool a huge scare when Shane Long struck early from a neatly worked left flank cross, only to see Naby Keita restore parity shortly before the break when he headed in Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross.
Late goals from Mohamed Salah and James Milner then completed the Reds’ comeback as they move two points clear of Manchester City, who do still have a game in hand though.
The race for a top four spot meanwhile produced more twists as Eden Hazard netted a brace against West Ham, sending Chelsea third after Phil Jagielka’s 11th minute tap in earned Everton a slender win over Arsenal.

Burnley moved closer to safety after coming from behind to secure a 3-1 win over Bournemouth, having initially seen Ashley Barnes head the Cherries’ free-kick into his own net just four minutes in.
Finally, Luka Milivojevic’s late penalty handed Crystal Palace victory away at Newcastle as they now sit a point from safety.
