2018-19 Premier League: Week Five – Sunday

With the return of European Football in midweek, this Super Sunday looks quieter than usual but still promises to be a cracker.

First up is Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Burnley, who have contested only one Premier League season together before in 2009-10.

The big teatime Super Sunday game then sees two of the summer’s big spenders meet at Goodison Park as Everton host bottom of league, West Ham United.

This is a huge opportunity for Burnley to get their season back on track now that their Europa League campaign is over.

Wolves meanwhile have gone quite well but both teams have something in common, poor defences.

Both sides need to tighten up if they are to stop leaking goals, although Wolves made progress last time out to win 1-0 at West Ham which is a real confidence boost for them.

Interestingly in three of last four seasons when these teams have met in same tier, the home side won the first clash 2-0 with two of those occasions coming here at Molineux.

Although Wolves need to win home games like these if they’re to stay up, I cannot see that happening here.

I am quite excited about this game because both sides have spent big this summer but yet are struggling to win matches so should be a tasty battle.

The only positive for Everton is that they have scored in each of their opening four games, despite being defensively shambolic so it wouldn’t be a surprise if both teams scored here.

West Ham meanwhile are just as poor at the back as Everton if not worse, having conceded twice in injury time unlike the Toffees.

This therefore is either going to be a cagey affair or a goalfest and given that Everton are somehow unbeaten still, I am going to back a home win although this will be a match decided by defence rather than attack.

Prediction: Everton 3-2 West Ham United

Jake predicts: Everton 2-0 West Ham United

Result: Everton 1-3 West Ham United
