Manchester United vs West Bromwich Albion

West Bromwich Albion travel to Manchester United in second Super Sunday match, knowing that defeat will all but certainly end their survival hopes.

12 points from safety and with no games in hand unlike fellow relegation threatened struggler – Southampton, West Brom have it all to do in their remaining five games.

Man Utd meanwhile are on a roll and will be keen to extend that run as they fight Liverpool for the runner up spot.

Team news

Manchester United are without reserve keeper, Sergio Romero till 21st April with a knee injury.

Defenders, Phil Jones and Daley Blind lack match fitness but Jose Mourinho has a full strength available to him this weekend.

West Brom enter this clash without veteran midfielder, Gareth Barry who is ruled out for rest of season with a knee injury.

Captain Jonny Evans is a doubt after picking up a knock.

James Morrison remains ruled out for a few more weeks but Daniel Sturridge could return here following a thigh injury.

Nacer Chadli has resumed training and played for the U23s in midweek so could be a possibility for bench.

Form

Manchester United are on a five match unbeaten streak in the Premier League, scoring 12 goals and conceding six.

During that run, they have played three home games with five of their six home goals coming in first half.

West Brom ended a run of nine consecutive defeats last time out with a 1-1 draw at home to Swansea City.

Away from The Hawthorns, the Baggies have earned just seven points with one win and four draws from 16 away matches this season.

Stat Attack

  • Manchester United have avoided defeat in four of last five meetings with West Brom.
  • Since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in May 2013, West Brom have taken seven points out of a possible 12 in four visits to Old Trafford.
  • Out of five Premier League draws between these teams, only one match finished 0-0, that being the last match at Old Trafford in April 2017.

Where can game be won or lost?

Per Game Average Manchester United (home) WBA (away)
Corners 6.13 4.25
Fouls 11.13 10.81
Shots 14.81 8.69
Shots on Target 5.31 2.63
Goals 2.19 0.5
Yellow Cards 1.5 1.88
Red Cards 0 1
Goals per First Half % 42.9 37.5
Goals per Second Half % 57.1 62.5

On paper, Manchester United will win this match because they dominate nearly every department.

My only concern is their home fouls average being higher than West Brom’s away average is.

That will offer the Baggies’ fans some hope of potentially snatching a point if are absolutely solid in defence. .

Their away goal average however is atrocious meaning that to be perfectly honest, they need to play out of their skin to keep United out.

Prediction

I can see this result going just one way if Manchester United pick up from where they left off from last weekend.

Prediction: Manchester United 3-0 WBA

Jake predicts: Manchester United 3-0 WBA

Result: Manchester United 0-1 WBA
