This afternoon we see Middlesbrough travel to Aston Gate, where they take on high flying Bristol City live on Sky Sports Football at 5:30.
Boro’s opponents today sit five points ahead of them in table as Bristol City sit in fifth place whereas Boro sit in eighth, two spaces and three points off the play-offs.
Last time out Boro were taught a footballing lesson as they were embarrassed by Derby as they lost 3-0 at home, the defeat against Derby meant the East Midlands side leapfrogged them in the table, however their opposition today managed to win 3-2 away at struggling Hull City thanks to goals from Aden Flint, Bobby Reid and Josh Brownhill.
Last Time Out
A 95th minute winner from Wes Burn was enough to separate the two sides as Middlesbrough slumped to their first defeat in ten league games.
The win at Aston Gate meant Bristol had done the double over the Teessiders and left Middlesbrough winless against Bristol City since 2011, when they won 1-0 thanks to a late free-kick winner from French midfielder Maulaury Martin.
Middlesbrough will welcome back Jonny Howson as the midfielder served his automatic one match against Derby last week, Boro will also hope to welcome back striker Rudy Gestede as he played a full 90 minutes for the U23’s during the week.
Bristol on the other hand are missing a few key players as O’Dowda joins Famara Diedhiou (knee), Eros Pisano (hamstring), Jens Hegeler (knee) and Gary O’Neil (knee) on the injury list.
Middlesbrough have a woeful record against the top half teams this season and to rub salt into the wound, they also have a terrible record against today’s opponents so I really can’t see them getting a result today.
Bristol City have been in good form this season and I expect them to inflict more damage on a Boro side that looks short on confidence when they have a big game.
Prediction: Bristol City 2-0 Middlesbrough
Result: Bristol City 2-1 Middlesbrough
