2026-27 Premier League: Week Six – Coventry vs Newcastle

Coventry City look to move out of the relegation zone against Newcastle United in a Premier League contest.

Victory would lift Coventry up to 14th although a draw would be enough to move them out of the relegation zone, whilst Newcastle can go fourth with a win.

Team News

Coventry manager, Frank Lampard has confirmed that his players who had been on international duty have returned without any fresh injury concerns.

Kaine Kesler-Hayden and Milan van Ewijk could return after recovering from hamstring injuries.

Aurele Amenda (calf), Taiwo Awoniyi (suspension), Josh Eccles (undisclosed), Luke Woolfenden (knee) and Haji Wright (quad) remain sidelined.

Newcastle will welcome Nico Gonzalez back into midfield after he missed their 2-1 win over Hull before the international break due to concussion.

Lewis Miley (knock) faces a late fitness test alongside; Amar Dedic (hamstring), William Osula (foot) and Joelinton (groin).

Ewen Jaouen (hamstring), Tino Livramento (knock), Dan Burn (ankle), Jacob Ramsey (thigh) and Anthony Elanga (hamstring) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Coventry host Newcastle at CBS Arena on Monday 12 October at 8pm BST, televised live on Sky Sports Main Event and Premier League in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Coventry have won just one of their last nine Premier League meetings against Newcastle (W1, D2, L6).
  • Newcastle have claimed 11 points from their eight previous Premier League trips to Coventry (W3, D2, L3).
  • Coventry have lost their last three Premier League meetings against Newcastle (L3), of which two of those three defeats were by 2-0 results.
  • Brandon Thomas-Asante has made more interceptions than any other Coventry player in the league this season (9).
  • Yoane Wissa has committed more fouls than any other Newcastle player in the Premier League this season (10).

Prediction

With a win finally on the board just before the international break, Coventry now need to use that clinical performance at Nottingham Forest as a base to keep building but they will need to keep it tight and take chances if want to stop Newcastle.

Matthias Jaissle’s Magpies though certainly rebounded from a brutal defeat at Leeds with a clinical first-half performance and second-half game management to beat Hull, and they now have a great chance to go into fourth if they bring that same quality and target Coventry’s defence effectively.

Lampard though probably will of been thankful for the extra few days of preparation because this is the start of a winnable run of games for Coventry, but I just think that Newcastle will be too strong if they get the opening goal.

Prediction: Coventry 0-2 Newcastle
