Bradford’s joint-interim manager, Mark Trueman believes that the Bantams “had to suffer” for their 1-1 draw at Reading.

Jake Beesley’s fourth-minute header put the Bantams in control until Udoka Godwin-Malife equalised for the Royals from a long throw in their 1-1 draw at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

The result also meant that Bradford slipped to second on goal difference in League One with a game in hand after Plymouth Argyle beat Leyton Orient 2-0 in East London.

Trueman post-match explained to the club website that the Bantams had periods of suffering in order to snatch the point, but was pleased at the energetic start despite having seen Graham Alexander leave the club for Preston last week.

“Reading are a good team, and we knew that coming into the game. There were going to be spells where we had to suffer and deal with their pressure.

“But the way we started the game, on the front foot and aggressive, was really good. We got the goal and potentially could have had another, which was slightly offside.

“We got down to business on Monday, worked hard and focused on how we could hurt Reading, and we did that early on in the game.

“It was a tough game, but the lads were excellent. It is a good point away from home and is something to build on.”

1,118 Bradford supporters travelled to Berkshire for the encounter and Trueman was impressed with the noise that they created in the stands.

“All I could hear was our fans, especially when the Reading supporters went a little bit quiet because of the way we were playing. Our fans were singing all the way through, and I am glad we were able to score in front of them.

“It is always a nice feeling, especially for Jake.

“It is not about me; it has never been about me. It is about the team. I knew what they were going to give me.”
