Israel host Republic of Ireland in a must-win League B3 showdown in the 2026-27 UEFA Nations League.
Following opening defeats against Austria and Kosovo respectively, victory would see Israel leapfrog Ireland into at least third, whilst Ireland can move into second with a win if Austria’s clash against Kosovo doesn’t end in a draw.
Team News
Sayed Abu Farchi is suspended for Israel after his red card in their 3-1 loss away to Austria.
Ireland have no fresh injury or suspension concerns after their 1-0 loss away to Kosovo, although manager – Heimir Hallgrimsson could rotate with Adam Idah and Jack Moylan amongst those pushing for a start.
When is Kick-Off?
Israel host Ireland at Nagyerdei Stadion, Debrecen, Hungary, on Sunday 27 September at 8:45pm CEST (7:45pm BST), live on Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
Stat Attack
- This is Israel’s first Nations League meeting against Ireland.
- Ireland are yet to win away to Israel in all competitions (D2, L1).
- Israel have kept just one clean sheet in 2026 (W1, D1, L1).
- Ireland are looking to avoid suffering consecutive defeats for the first time since September – October 2025.
Prediction
Although they clinically scored from their only shot on target in their defeat against Austria, Israel were absolutely outplayed so this is a chance to reset because it’s only the second group match in a section that is pretty much wide open as all four teams are capable of finishing top.
Ireland meanwhile were outplayed against Kosovo with just one of three shots converted onto target but they can take heart from their defensive effort to only lose by a single goal, having faced eight shots on target out of Kosovo’s 22 total shots which shows how resilient their back line is.
I therefore do think that we will see both teams bring more attacking quality but if Ireland make the right rotations and ignore the controversy surrounding this fixture, I can see them nicking this.
Prediction: Israel 1-2 Ireland
Result: Israel 0-3 Ireland
