2026-27 Premier League: Week Five – Bournemouth vs Liverpool

Bournemouth face Liverpool in a mid-table Premier League encounter at Vitality Stadium.

Victory could lift Bournemouth as high as 10th and above Liverpool if win by a two-goal margin at minimum, but an one-goal winning margin would see them go 11th if Sunderland lose at Manchester City.

Liverpool can go as high as fifth with a win depending on results elsewhere.

Team News

Bournemouth have no fresh injury concerns to report following their 2-1 Europa League win at Real Sociedad.

Julian Araujo (thigh), Eli Junior Kroupi (foot), Veljko Milosavljevic (knee) and Amine Adli (calf) are ruled out.

Liverpool have no fresh injury concerns to report after their 3-1 Carabao Cup victory at home against Tottenham.

Federico Chiesa (muscle), Giovanni Leoni (ACL), Conor Bradley (knee) and Hugo Ekitike (Achilles) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Bournemouth host Liverpool at Vitality Stadium on Sunday 20 September at 2pm BST, live on Sky Sports Main Event in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Bournemouth have won just one of their last six league meetings against Liverpool (W1, L5)
  • Liverpool have won five of their last seven league visits to Bournemouth (W5, L2).
  • Marcus Tavernier has scored in Bournemouth’s last two league matches (D2).
  • Liverpool have kept clean sheets in their last two league matches (W1, D1).

Prediction

Despite having faced a daunting Europa League debut at Real Sociedad, Bournemouth surprisingly managed the occasion with calmness and a clinical first-half counter-attack but this is a tough challenge now to adapt to the Thursday to Sunday turnaround.

Liverpool meanwhile certainly put their frustrating goalless draw against Fulham last weekend behind them with a superb cup win over Tottenham, which has to be the base to kick on and ensure they go into the international break in a positive place.

Bournemouth’s players though will know how their ex manager – Andoni Iraola plays and he likewise knows how they play so I expect this initially to be a tactical game of cat and mouse, but things should soon open up and Liverpool’s technical quality could be the difference.

Prediction: Bournemouth 0-1 Liverpool
