Manchester City have signed Argentine midfielder, Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea for £125m.
Fernandez’s move comes after extensive negotiations and rejected bids and an attempted deadline ruling from Chelsea in recent weeks, and his transfer is the joint most-expensive transfer between Premier League clubs after Alexander Isak joined Liverpool from Newcastle for £125m last summer on deadline day.
The 25-year-old has signed a five-year contract until June 2031 with option for a further year, which has brought his three-and-a-half year spell at Chelsea to an end – having won the 2024-25 UEFA Conference League title and 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and netted 31 goals in 170 appearances.
Fernandez now is relishing the chance to be part of England’s “most successful club” in recent years and challenge for silverware.

“If you look across the squad, City have quality in every area. I want to learn from my new teammates and become a better player.
“I pride myself on continually improving my game. Anyone who’s worked with me will know how hard I train every single day and how much I put into matches. I give absolutely everything and I can promise Manchester City that will continue now I’m here.”
Fernandez began his career at River Plate with 12 goals in 51 appearances amidst two loan spells at Defensa y Justicia in 2019-20 and 2021 seasons, across which he netted one goal in 33 appearances.
He then joined Benfica in summer 2022 but only delivered four goals in 29 appearances before he was signed by Chelsea in January 2023.
At international level, Fernandez represents Argentina and has scored eight goals in 49 caps since his senior debut in September 2022 as a substitute in a 3-0 friendly victory over Honduras, just months before he was named in their squad which went on to win the FIFA World Cup that year.
He also was part of Argentina’s Copa America title-winning squad in 2024.
