AFC Wimbledon have signed goalkeeper, Josef Bursik on a season-long loan from Portsmouth.

Bursik’s loan move to AFC Wimbledon – where he initially began his career at youth level – comes after he kept just two clean sheets in 10 appearances for Portsmouth last season.

In his first interview with the club’s website, Bursik explained that he is pleased to return in what he considers to be “a full circle moment” in his career.

“It’s great to be back.

“It’s a bit of a full circle moment. Good feeling, good memories. I’m looking forward to it.”

Bursik began his career at AFC Wimbledon in their academy before he moved to Stoke where he graduated through their academy to record 13 clean sheets in 53 first-team appearances, amidst loans at Hednesford, AFC Telford, Accrington Stanley, Doncaster Rovers, Peterborough United and Lincoln City.

Across the six loan spells, he kept 12 clean sheets in 66 combined appearances between 2018-21 during which he also made 16 appearances for Stoke in the 2020-21 season.

January 2023 saw Club Brugge sign Bursik but he failed to break through into their first-team squad and consequently was loaned to Scotland’s Hibernian in the 2024-25 season, where he managed just 17 appearances.
