Wrexham have signed Gabonese defender, Jacques Ekomie from Angers for an undisclosed transfer fee.
Ekomie’s switch to Wrexham comes after two seasons at Angers where he failed to score in 41 appearances, although the Red Dragons saw an initial bid of £4.3m rejected before both clubs agreed an undisclosed fee which is rumoured to be around £8m.
The 23-year-old has signed a four-year contract with Wrexham until June 2030 and is keen to embrace his new club.
“I’m excited to be here. It is a very big and interesting project for me – I’m here to progress, and I’m very happy to be here.
“I want to achieve great things at Wrexham. I think it’s an ambitious project and I want to bring all my experience to help the team achieve our goals.”
Ekomie began his career at Merignac at youth level before he moved to Bordeaux in 2021 and graduated through their youth academy to make 35 appearances.
At international level, Ekomie represents Gabon and earned 22 senior caps since his debut in March 2023 in a 1-0 victory over Sudan in 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifying.
