Alex Powell has joined PREMA for the final two rounds of the 2026 F3 season following Louis Sharp’s departure.
Sharp has left the team after seven rounds in which he scored only 21 points and sits 17th in the championship, which led to a joint decision with PREMA to part company now that the title is no longer mathematically achievable, in-turn allowing him to focus on his options for 2027.
Powell has consequently been drafted in for the final two rounds at Monza, Italy, and Madring, Madrid, Spain, to partner James Wharton and Jose Garfias, and will make his debut at the in-season test at Madring on 24 and 25 August.
The 18-year-old American-Jamaican driver previously drove for PREMA in lower-tier single-seater racing between 2023-25 and is pleased that they’ve entrusted him with a F3 seat for the final two rounds.
“It means a lot to be coming back to PREMA. This team gave me my first opportunity in single-seaters, and returning for the final part of the F3 2026 season is a great opportunity to show what I can do. I can’t wait to get in the car, and I’ll give it everything.”
PREMA Team Principal, Stephen Mitas added: “”We’re delighted to welcome Alex back to PREMA. He’s a driver we know well, and one who has already shown us what he can do in F4. His pace, racecraft and attitude make him a strong fit to contest the remainder of the season, and we’re looking forward to working together again.”
Powell is currently racing in Eurocup-3 where he lies sixth in the drivers’ standings but will miss their next round at Silverstone, Great Britain, due to clash with the F3 season finale on weekend of 11-13 September.
