West Ham United have signed forward, Joel Piroe on loan from Leeds United for the 2026-27 season.

Piroe’s move to East London on an initial season-long loan comes after three seasons at Elland Road where he scored 34 goals in 118 appearances, which included promotion from Championship to Premier League at the end of 2024-25 season as champions.

“It’s a joy to have got everything over the line,” commented a “delighted” Piroe who has been handed the number nine shirt this season, and sees the Hammers as challengers for an instant promotion back to England’s top flight.

“I see West Ham as a Club that really wants to be in the Premier League, and I think should be in the Premier League. With my experience, I think I can help the Club a lot to achieve what they want to achieve, and I think it’s a good opportunity for me to show what I’ve learnt and how I’ve grown as a football player over the years.”

Piroe also spoke of the ambitions of Director of Player Recruitment, Nils Koppen and manager, Nuno Espirito Santo beyond just this season, given that the Hammers have an obligatory buy clause in his loan deal which can be activated next summer if clauses are met.

“Nils and Nuno have both been very clear about what the goals for the Club are, both in the short term and in the long term. They talked to me about how they see the team being set up, and it felt like a good match for me. I’m just really looking forward to joining the group, and working with the other guys on the grass.”

Piroe began his career at PSV Eindhoven where he scored three goals in 14 appearances in the 2020-21 season, whilst he scored twice in 20 appearances on loan at Sparta Rotterdam the previous season.

July 2021 saw Piroe move to Swansea where his career experienced its breakthrough moment with 46 goals in 96 total appearances, and he was their top goalscorer in the 2021-22 and 22-23 seasons before he scored twice in four outings at the start of 2023-24 season prior to his move to Leeds.
