Reading have signed midfielder, George Earthy from West Ham for an undisclosed transfer fee.

Earthy’s move to the Royals has ended his 16-year spell at West Ham where he graduated through their academy to score one goal in five first-team appearances.

He also spent the last two seasons on loan at Bristol City with three goals in 51 appearances for the Robins, and won their Young Player of the Season award in the 2024-25 campaign.

Earthy has signed a three-year contract with Reading until June 2029 with manager, Leam Richardson happy to add the 21-year-old midfielder to his squad given his quality and danger going forward.

“We’re really pleased to bring George to the club. He’s a talented young player who already has some very good experience under his belt, both in the Championship and at Premier League level.

“He’s technically very good, he’s creative and he gives us another real attacking threat. He wants to get on the ball and make things happen and we’re excited to be working with him.

“We’ve already got a group with great character and attitude and George will fit into that really well. He’s hungry to play and hungry to improve and to bring a player of his quality here on a permanent basis is really positive for us.”

Earthy meanwhile said that he is “absolutely delighted” to make the “no-brainer” move once Reading expressed official interest, and has vowed to bring creativity in attack.

“I am an attacking, creative player who will give my all for the badge and for the club. Hopefully I will score goals and pick up assists.”
