Hull City have signed attacking midfielder, Joe Gelhardt from Leeds United for an undisclosed transfer fee.
Gelhardt’s return to the Tigers comes after he enjoyed a successful loan at the Humberside club last season with 15 goals and five assists in all competitions, and crucially scored the second goal in a 2-0 Championship Play-Off Semi-Final second leg win at Millwall en-route to promotion to the Premier League.
Gelhardt’s performances however weren’t enough for him to break through into Daniel Farke’s plans at Elland Road this season, and the Whites accepted an undisclosed transfer fee from Hull amidst interest from Birmingham City.
The 24-year-old has signed a four-year contract at Hull until June 2030 with the club also holding an one-year extension option in the deal.
Upon confirmation of his move, Gelhardt was overjoyed as he explained to the club website how chuffed he is to be back
“I’m over the moon. It’s been a great 18 months playing here – I’ve loved every minute of it. Since the season ended, I knew exactly where I wanted to be. Thankfully, it’s happened.
“As soon as I joined the club, I connected with the fans, the staff, all the players. I’m happy to be here on a permanent now, rather than a loan.
“Last season was amazing for everyone involved. A lot of people wrote us off and didn’t believe we could do it. We knew the quality we had and there was such a togetherness at the club.
“I was delighted with the way it happened at Wembley, in the last minute. It was brilliant!”
Gelhardt proceeded to add that once Hull expressed their interest in signing him permanently, he knew that it was the only choice that he wanted.
“Everyone is aware of how much love I have for Hull. Once the owner called, it was always going to be Hull.
“I was buzzing to come back and see everyone. Now we’re in the Premier League, everyone is excited to play against the best and test ourselves.
“Thanks to the fans for their support and the love you have shown me. Here’s to another four years!”
