Ipswich Town have signed Serbian midfielder, Sasa Lukic from Fulham in a £9m transfer.
Lukic’s move to Portman Road has ended his three-and-a-half year stint at Craven Cottage where he scored three goals in 106 appearances across all competitions, although he struggled for game time last season amidst injury issues and had just one year left on his contract.
Fulham consequently accepted a £9m offer from Ipswich for the 29-year-old who has signed a four-year contract at Portman Road until June 2030.
“I am proud to sign for this club,” explained Lukic on joining Ipswich.
“I know there is a great history here and some brilliant supporters so I can’t wait to get started. I have played at Portman Road before in the Premier League and the atmosphere was one of the best I have experienced. I can’t wait to play here as a home player.
“I am a box-to-box player who gives my all every time I am on the pitch and I’m excited to meet everyone and get started.”
Ipswich Head Coach, Gary O’Neil added: “Sasa is a player who brings real experience to the squad heading into the new season.
“Having played nearly 100 games in the Premier League, he knows what it takes to compete in the division and has been a consistent performer throughout his time at Fulham.
“We are delighted to have him with us and further strengthen an important area of the pitch.”
Lukic began his career at Teleoptik where he scored nine goals in 39 first-team appearances on loan from Partizan Belgrade, before he returned to his parent club and made his debut for the side in May 2015.
He went on to score twice in 33 appearances which secured a move to Italy’s Torino where he delivered 14 goals in 168 appearances across six-and-a-half seasons, during which he was loaned to Levante in the 2017-18 season but only made 18 appearances without scoring.
At international level, Lukic represents Serbia and has scored two goals in 62 senior caps since his debut in September 2018 in a 1-0 victory away to Lithuania in the 2018-19 UEFA Nations League.
